Do you have enough space on the tape?

Maybe a silly question but do you have enough space on the tape?

It was marked free and everything else was backed to tape. You might be
right, how do I tell if the tape wasn't big enough? Is there a log somewhere
that says the tape held x data? Tape has already headed off site. So if
that is the issue, it will only worsen as we have more data and not less.

I am currently not compressing data, so I guess that is an option if I need
more tape space. Tape is LTO3 800Gb. I believe it is 400GB without
compression, am I correct?

You can generate a Tape Management report to get a high level info.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb808935.aspx

Follow these instructions to see the actual size..

Yes. Without compression LTO3 can support 400GB.

Santhosh,
Thanks for your help.
I tried the second item several times. Directions seemed simple enough, but
I had no success, in fact the Admin Console crashed several times so I gave
up.
I'll do the inventory when I finish the backup next Sunday.

Hi Peter,

Do you see a job waiting for tape alert in the alerts view? If that is the
case then it means that the tape is full. The default timeout for a job
waiting for a free ape is 1 hour, after which the job will fail.

Pranay,
When I look at details it says: Failed to perform the operation since the
tape free tape is not available in Stand Alone Drive Tape Library Hewlett
Packard LTO Ultrium-3 drive (ID 24050)
And Recommended Action is: Add tape to the library, or to the drive in the
case of a stand-alone tape drive. Retry the operation after adding tape.

I have the tape still in there i am going to try the Inventory to see how
much it holds from Sunday. I'll report back.

Santhosh,
The links you gave me earlier to find tape volume apparently have changed.
Anyway I cannot determine what the quantity is on the tape so I am going to
set compression on for this coming weekend as I only have the one tape drive
and no one here on the weekend to change the tape.

Turning on Tape compression worked. No more errors.
I looked at the tape reporting to see if I could figure out how much longer
it took, but was unsucessful. The important thing is it finishes on the
weekend and everythig fits on one tape, so no upgrading the tape drive yet.
