Advantages of OLAP cubes over Data mining models

Hi friends

I am new to data warehouse concepts. After transforming the required data from the operational DB to data warehouse DB, can we use SQL reporting to produce the reports or do we need to create OLAP cubes/data mining models and then connect with SQL reporting to produce reports.

Please tell me which is correct and why.

If you want to slice and dice the data, OLAP/cubes are
the way to go. if it is just reporting both are fine.

What are the best tools for this?

Is it Analysis Services - to produce the cubes?
