After installing MSCRM 3.0 I now get a web alert from SBS 2003 every minute
or so
seconds, alerting me to the following

http://(Servername):5555/MSCRMServices request failed: Critical condition.
HTTP Status: 400 Error: Cannot find server or DNS Error
Response Time (msec): 0.
(WMI Status: 0 )

When checked out in IIS, the site has a load of items for CRM services, but
has no default page (HTML) and cannot be viewed in internet explorer, (get a
404 permission denied error,) but this appears to be normal. This link is
not
meant to be directly accessed seemingly.

Obviously getting an email with the same thing every 20 seconds is highly
irritating, and I don't want to turn off alerts as they serve a very
important role. Can either

a) Alerts for just this error be turned off
or
b) the error be stopped entirely.

I would prefer a) but would be fine with b).

This problem is not unique. I have seen several other posts with exactly the
same problem, but haven't found a solution.
I have changed permission on the physical directory to allow "local system"
access to the directory to read, and placed a blank index.htm in the
directory so that the web checker would have something to read, and can no
read it using a browser as administrator. I also tried adding "local system"
to the CRM users list in desperation, when it became apparent that CRM
controlled access, and not Windows Server permissions, but as "Local system"
is a "foreign security principal" and not a user, I could not add it.

Are there ANY suggestions?? I am happy to provide more info if required.

As a first troubleshooting step I would look through your logs to before CRM
was installed and see if you were having DNS issues

Something is definitely not right, as I have several SBS boxes with CRM
3.0 installed and have never received this message. You mention there
is no default web page... Well, yeah there is.. If I look in IIS at
the MSCRM 3.0 web site (select that folder) I can see 9 folders and 10
files on the right hand side. One of them is default.aspx. (No HTML,
but see the next para.)

Also, if I right click and select properties, and select the Documents
tab, the "enable default content page" is checked, and default.aspx is
in the box. (If not there, I have seen MS support click Add and just
add a dummy page in there...) (This appears to differ: another box
has four items in the Documents window: default.aspx, default.htm,
default.asp, and index.htm - hmm,. this box was upgraded from 1.2,
that may explain the diff.)

Also, I can right click on the MSCRM 3.0 folder wuthin IIS and hit
Browse, and CRM will (eventually) open up in a new window. Does this
work for you?

The DNS server is on the same system, (being SBS) and there weren't any
other DNSing issues, from what I could see.

The CRM site (http://"servername":5555) works perfectly. Its just the
subdirectory MSCRMServices that reports the error. I've described the error
further in a post below replying to someone else.

Thanks for your reply and interest! :-)

The error is coming from the subdirectory MSCRMServices. If you tried to
"Browse" that location directly you'd get the same message, although it
would say "Permission denied"
I added a blank default.htm file to that directory and made it the default
page, (as per below)

"(If not there, I have seen MS support click Add and just
> add a dummy page in there...) "

And here is the catch. CRM Actually works perfectly! If you "Browse" the
base CRM site directly, or open it from a workstation, it works fine! But
for some reason, IIS and SBS are interpreting the subdirectory
MSCRMServices as a directory to be browsed directly, and from what I have
been able to see from the errors thus far, the directory was never meant to
be browsed directly. It appears to be a directory of Support files, (ASPs,
scripts, etc etc.)

I also yesterday tried adding the "local system" account to the list of
permitted users for CRM, (seing that CRM overrides the IIS and file system
permissions) but that didn't work. "Local system" is a "foreign security
principal" and can't be added to CRM as its not a "User" as such, just a
reference....

Is there a solution to this one? I have same error with CRM on the same
(5555) port and SBS 2003 Premium.

I unistalled ISA 2004 while troubleshooting a problem caused by a DMZ switch
failing intermitantly and the error went away . After reinstalling ISA the
e-mail erro returned...

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

Can you post the ipconfig/all from the server and a client?

Hi,

Those ipconfigs look fine to me. Can you check DNS server please? Are there
any foreign records (records that don't belong to the internal IP range) or
dns zone that shouldn't be there? Is there a record for the servername and
companyweb?

Hello 96ghia!

I just had the same problem. Here is what I know:

I created this problem when I installed CRM Mobile. I believe I broke it
when I was playing around with the web site certificates. I dont know EXACTLY
which of the following fixed it, but I did fix it! I did this:

a) Re-Ran the CEICW, changed firewall settings, and create a new certificate.

b) changed the IP Address for the CRM site to "All IPs"

C) The default document list was empty. I added default.aspx.

Lastly, did an IISReset, and bam! it stopped sending the error reports.

Good luck, and post what you find.

I'm getting the same issue on a brand new server load AND another load on my
virtual server sandbox. Both are SBS Premium with ISA. One is SP1 from the
distribution disks and one is pre SP1 updatyed to SP1All patches are
installed and these are clean boxes. I tried everything in the above post
including rebooting the server to no avail. My messages are 8-10 minutes
apart. It does not appear that any of the above fixes are the real answer.

Has anyone definitively solved this yet?

Un-installing ISA does stop the alerts but there is more to it.
