Is it possible to alter a single line item in your basket
for discount purposes? Basket prices are pulled from the
catalog and are static, so I was wondering how I could
achieve this.

If you are using the retail site -try the "_additem.asp" page
-modify the price - create an additional attribute for the item dictionary
set to modified price - modify pipeline - insert scriptor after the
getitemdetails pipe component
set the list price to the value of the new attribute that you created
earlier.
