I have three pcs that use office97 but keep coming up with
CG5 instead of CG3. Two of these pcs had office97 and
office2000 on them at the same time. The third computer
has only had office97, from what the user has admitted
to. I've tried on the third computer to remove all
registry entries for clip gallery and removed office97
from the computer and reinstalled. It still comes back to
CG5. For one of the computer with both versions of
office, I've removed office2000 and reinstalled office97
but can't get it back to using CG3. I have been unable to
find anything in the knowledge base except for article
232317 which states Microsoft does not support or
recommend removing clip gallery 5.

Any suggestions?

Is there a particular reason you want to regress to Gallery 3?

We are still running office97 and the clips won't load
without errors. We received this error first "The server
application, source file, or item cannot be found. Make
sure the application is properly installed and that it has
not been deleted, removed, or renamed." I then removed
office2000 because it is not our corporate standard and
they should not have installed both versions on the same
pc. I verified the install of office97 to make sure all
components were there. Then when we went into the clip
gallery, we got a message to organize the clips. We said
yes and received the following error "An unspecified error
has occurred. Clip Gallery could not complete the
operation. For more information, press F1 now and see
Troubleshooting the Clip Gallery Help. Error code:
0x80040154." We haven't been able to get into the clip
gallery since then.

Thanks for the information. We do need to go back to clip
gallery 3 because we are still using office 97. Sorry it
took awhile to get back but I was out on vacation for 3
weeks and just had a chance to check this post. While I
was out, we received a couple more installs that had the
CG messed up by installing newer products that use CG5.

Please post the procedures for removing CG 5.

Thanks!

Clip Gallery 5 is a far more stable product. It does all the things the .3 can do.
Are you getting errors?

My post on May 14 lists the errors we are getting for some
users. Our current corporate standard is office97 with
cg3. One of the people who currently has cg5 needs access
to clips from cg3 which are no longer available since cg5
installed. We've tried everything on these pcs short of
pulling them and reimaging the whole system.

Mary,

Thanks for the response but we've already looked at these
articles and they don't fix the problem. We currently are
an NT 4.0 shop running office97. Installing office2000 is
not an option as we are moving to XP with officeXp (it's
going to take 18 months to get all stff moved to the new
platform). In the meantime we have about 10 users who are
unable to perform some job functions. We may end up
having to reimage their pcs so they get a fresh baseload
of all of our corporate applications. I have a couple of
remote users who are on the sales staff that will have a
major inconvenience if they have to ship their pcs back in
to be reimaged. We are going to a locked down environment
with the rollout of Xp to keep things like this from
happening (they will no longer be able to install any
nonapproved/nonstandard software). We have strict
standards on what can be installed on pcs, but some staff
go off on their own and then cause things to break that we
have to fix.

CAG 5 works fine with Office 97. I know. I do it. The .mmc file will open in
CAG 5. If it doesn't work, something is wrong with your setup. It doesn't
have anything to do with CAG.

HTH!

Moose,

I upgraded the MDAC to version 2.6 and still had problems
starting clipart. We are still getting "An unspecified

error has occurred. Clip Gallery could not complete the
operation. For more information, press F1 now and see

Troubleshooting in Clip Gallery Help. Error code:
0x80040154".

I referenced both articles you listed but neither fixed
the problem.
