Office 2010 beta: Footnotes

Having used Word 2007 for my latest book I became deeply frustrated by the
limitations in the display of footnotes. If there are a great many short
notes, such as indications of correct entries in a table, it would be so very
very helpful if these notes could be rearranged, for example with one after
the other placed in horizontal rows. Surely in the name of all that is modern
programming you could incorporate a real formatting feature that would take
care of this. A quick check with the new Beta shows that this is still not
available. None of the other new features matter to me as much as this.
