how to send new email when reading hotmail emails

I have windows Vista (unfortunately). I sign into Hotmail through
messenger. I can read and reply to email messages with now problem. When I
want to send New email I received notice that the format is now longer
recognized in the http email settings. Another 'new and improved' feature in
Vista that, as always, was another microsoft screw up. Knowledge base is
useless, as always. Any ideas?
