I am running into a problem when I install BizTalk 2004. During the
registration of the components I am receiving:

[11:27:23 AM Error] Error 5008 occurred during MSI installation.
[11:27:23 AM Error] Action 11:25:56:
WMI_Add_MSBTS_Silent.2C6470A2_C120_48FE_942D_957983D4C6FC. Registering
BizTalk WMI provider
[11:27:23 AM Error] Error 5008.Registration of the BizTalk WMI
provider failed. Return code 3.

I have looked through just about everything I can think of, and cannot
find a reference to the error message, error code or anything. I have
tried granting privs to the c:\program files\ directory for the
SERVICE account and that doesn't work.

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem?

Machine specs:
WinXP Pro
P4 1.7 Ghz
512 MB RAM

Thanks,
-Mark.

Follow up.

I figured out the problem after many hours of digging. The most
excellent error message only has one clue as to why things weren't
working, WMI. (You would think the error codes would mean something.)

From other postings in various places I found out that my WMI
namespace didn't exist because an RSoP connection to WMI failed. Dunno
what that has to do with anything, but I didn't know what else the
problem could be.

Here is what I found to fix the installation problem:

1. Stop the WMI service (Windows Management Instrumentation)
2. Open a command prompt
3. cd /d %windir%system32\wbem
4. ren Repository to Repository_old
5. Reboot (this will recreate the Repository dir)

6. Open command prompt
7. cd /d %windir%\system32
8. regsvr32 /n /I userenv.dll
9. cd wbem
10. mofcomp scersop.mof
11. gpupdate /force

You may not need to do steps 1-5, but I recieved an error about
registering the userenv.dll (DllInstall in userenv.dll failed. Return
code was 0x8004100e)

Hopefully this will help the next person that receives this error.

Well I tried everything mentioned above but was not able to rectify the issue.

This is what worked for me:

1) Go to server Manager, under Roles--> Web server (IIS)
2) Right click and add roles
3) install the IIS6 management compatibility
