I recently had to rebuild a SBS 2003 server. The server can connect to the
internet but the client machines cannot. when I ping a site such as ford.com
from a client machine the ping returns the sites address but fails to reach
the site. Tracert does not pass the server. I cannot connect to web sites
by their IP address either. I can connect to the servers default site. The
router is connected only to the server and the server to the internal
network. the client machines have the server's internal NIC address as the
gateway. this is the same way that it was configured before rebuilding.
I tried disjoining and rejoining the domain with a newly created workstation
account and flushing DNS but got the same results.
I had done screen shots of the previous configuration and have set the new
install to match the old but I missed something. I had mirrored the drives
in the original configuration and broke the mirror to reinstall the OS so the
old config is accessable. I reenabled the old config and reviewed it but I
dont see what is different. anyone have any ideas on what to check? The
email and internet wizard ran successfully.

Hi there, if you don't have ISA on the server then you will neec to configure
Routing and Remote Access (RRAS) in administrative tools. Your server cannot
act as a router unless its specifically configured to do so, this is
configured in the RRAS console.
Hope that helps
James.

Thanks for the reply James. I will try it this week and post my results.
