The instruction from the article still requires you to run the server in
maintenace mode and that is the only way to get back your console.
You maybe thinking maintenace mode will reinstall everything and it is not
correct. You can choose what to reinstall or not. Running sbs in maintenace
mode won't reinstall your server.

What would be a possible reason for the Administration
component not to be installed during the setup?

When I try to run setup in maintenance mode, I get asked
for the product key and other setup details. To me it
seems that setup is not running in maintenance mode.

If it asks for the product key during the setup, then I don't think the
setup is running in maintenace mode. In fact, I don't even think the setup
is completed in the first place. Go ahead to run the setup, it won't
overwrite the existing settings. If your Exchange is installed, when you
reach the compoent selection, it will be checked already.

When setup asks domain and network information is it safe
to go onto the components page knowing the existing
installation will not be overrided?

I am interested to look at the licensing information but
when I go to administrative tools -> licensing or control
panel -> licensing I get the message:

Not available in Backoffice Small Business Server. To add
client licenses choose Manage Server from Start Menu and
select About Small Business Server.

When I go to the start menu Manage Server option is not
there. I don't understand why. I really appreciate your
help Ray Fong.

Could I 100% guarantee it is safe? Unfortuantely, the answer is No, so
please do a full backup first.
But I could say it is 99% safe the setup will not overwrite your Active
Directory and existing setup. When it asks for the domain and network info,
specify the same information you currently are using. This will give you a
better chance the setup will give you back what you have when it is
completed.

As far as the message you got from the licensing, it is expected. You need
to get the SBS console installled before you can see the licensing info.

Do I have to reinstall all the programs after setup runs?

What is the reason for the Manage Server option not to
appear in the start menu? Is there a way I can copy the
console files from CD3 manually without running setup
again?

You don't need to reinstall any other program. Just need to let the
integrated setup to put back the missing componets.
The only way to get back the console is running the integrated setup. You
can "copy" the file, but it won't do much good. There are registry files,
DLLs, etc related to console.

After running setup, I don't have to reinstall any of the
programs installed on the server. How long does setup
take? I have people connected to this server - so I need
to be careful with my actions. I am especially worried
about Active Directory. I don't want to loose what is
already on the server.

How do I obtain client licenses for using small business
server?

Currently the server has Service Pack 4. So if I run
setup again I think I will have to reapply the patch?

I installed SBS2000 by booting the server from the CD-
ROM. I don't understand why the full integrated setup
didn't run. Do you think I can install the consoles by
booting from the CD rom again and repair the existing
installation?
