Hello,
I am running SBS 2000 with SP4 and cannot start
Add/remove programs. I can see mshta.exe in processes.
After checking MS web they say to run the system file
checker, which runs for a bit and then prompts me for
the 'original OS CD' which does not have the current files
because it has been updated to SP4. And it also doesn't
let you redirect to any path (sp4 files), it only looks
for the cdrom. Then it says if this doesn't work try a
repair with the original CD which will again check against
non SP4 files? How can I get this fixed? Please help.

I believe a reinstall of Internet Explorer fixes the problem with Add/Remove
Programs on pre-SP4 installs, so you might want to give it a try.

I know this isn't much help but it's all I can do at the moment.
A colleague of mine has this problem recently (after installing Exchange
Sept 2003 security rollup) and he found a list of dll's on
groups.google.co.uk I believe that he went through one at a time
registering. That sorted the problem out for our client. I am sorry I can't
be more specific as he is off ill today.
I hope that gives you at least some help. :)

Thanks for the response! I am assuming there is an option for re-install when running IE Setup?

Thanks,
Dan

If you have IE6, you might try repairing it: (copy and paste the following
line into Start | Run...)

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"

This was taken from...

Another way to reinstall may be to connect to the MS IE download site,
download the setup.exe stub and run it.

Thank You Merv! That did the trick. Is there an explanation for it? Or just an MS anomily?

Thanks again!

I've never seen a good explanation as to why this happens. Obviously some
corruption but I don't know exactly where. Just another one of those things
that you see posted and then keep in your memory banks for future reference.
