Hi! Does anyone know how to block all those unwanted MS Security updates
that come with the attachments containing viruses? My McAfee Internet
Security blocks most of them at home, but what can I do on the Exchange
server at work?

Well first I hope you have A/V protecting that Exchange server? Yes?
You should.
But you can always turn on the ISA feature pack and use that to drop
them or the tool in this page

to use it properly and effectively."

Well hopefully you have an equally good server class antivirus program running on your SBS box too.

if they do happen to pass through, most of the attachments have a file type which is blocked by Outlook 2000 (or later)assuming it has all service packs applied

Hi!  Yes, we have Groupshield for Exchange 2000 which blocks them, but sends me an email with the attached text saying it's been quarantined.  So I still receive mucho email.

Yes, the server is fully patched--including ISA and Exchange.

Good question.  But if there is, how would it differentiate between these retarded false MS security updates and actuall viruses that may be coming in?  I need to know the other ones, I'm tired of seeing these MS ones--like 2100/week.

Any advice?
Thanks.

No AV package I am aware of allows the choice 'do not notify when this virus
is found' while notifying of other viri.

You might raise it as a 'wishlist item' with your AV supplier.

You seem to be making a distinction between this virus and others. It is an
'actual virus'.

Hi! I realize it is an actual virus, I am just being bombarded by it--live
every 10 minutes. I don't know how to block it that I don't get it. I want
to know of others coming in that have been blocked, but not this one
anymore. It comes to the point where you know it's happening, and it's
happening often, and there's nothing to do about it, so quit telling me
about this one....

That is where I'm at. It's at the point where I sort the email by
attachment (it sends the text message file saying it's been blocked),
highlight and delete. I

I want to know if there is a way to basically "ignore" this one, but not the
others. I'm gathering that wish can't happen. Thanks for the replies.

Hi Marcia,

Surely as long as your AV software IS blocking the viruses, that's the prime
concern rather than it notifying you of the fact? The one's it doesn't block
would be the concern surely?... Reminds me of when I had two slightly
mismatched versions of Scanmail and Scanmail eManager - eManager would block
the spam and then email me each time to inform me of the fact - result: no
reduction in unwanted emails.

If it's blocking a virus [which is what these beggars are - SWEN.A or
somesuch] then its done its job - sorry but I'm a little unsure as to why
you want to be informed of this? I could see the point if it was incorrectly
blocking emails it thought had a virus when they in fact didn't...

Cheers,

David
