I am unable to get certain programs on my desktops to connect to the
internet (through ISA firewall client) that worked ok with my previous
sbs4.5 installation (Proxy client 2). eg. Norton AntiVirus Automatic
LiveUpdate, Kazaa, and others. I have tried briefly turning of Packet
filtering but this does not resolve the problems. I know that the firewall
clients are working ok as Outlook Express works ok. Can anyone suggest what
I need to do?

Thanks
Stewart

Hi Stewart,

Kazaa?????

Did you run the ICW wizard on the SBS? Can you get the AV update (and
please, forget Kazaa) on the server? If not, which errormessage?
Is the firewall client on the workstations pointing to the server and is
'autodiscoverey' turned off?

Hi Marina,

Yeah, yeah I know!!!! I was just trying to use an example that you would
have heard of - I'm aware of all the implications. You wouldnt have heard of
the other software as it is specialised.

Yes, the ICW has been run and everything else works as expected. Not sure if
you are familiar with Norton AV liveupdate (It's just the basic version of
NAV running on the clients) but I am able to run a manual liveupdate on each
client but the automatic update (which runs every 4 hours) appears to have
worked when checked in the task scheduler but no virus definitions get
downloaded. The Firewall clients are pointing to the server and the
'Automatically detect ISA server' is turned off.
The server uses AVG server/exchange AV software. This works fine.

The other software I use has the option to enter proxy server details. I
have tried every combination I can think of of having this on or off,
firewall client on or off and IE proxy settings on or off.
At the moment I am having to disable the firewall client and make a dial up
connection through modem sharing to get any of these programs to work. Sort
of defeats the object really!

Thanks
Stewart.

Hi Marina,

No, I had missed that page. It had the answer though - "295667 - How to
Allow Third-Party Internet Application Connections Through ISA Server 2000 "

Thanks very much,
Stewart
