Router/Firewall recommendation

I am switching to Verizon DSL and they provided me with a Westell 7500 modem.
I have had no luck getting this modem to sustain a VPN connection. I have
tried from three different remote sites, all with different routers, and I
have different VPN problems from each site. I have decided to abandon the
Westell 7500 and pick up my own router/firewall. I am looking for a
recommendation on a device that will work well with a SBS server and not
break the bank.

My requirements are as follows:
- Must act as a router because I have another tenant that shares my DSL line.
- Must support VPN passthrough
- Must support port forwarding

I don't mind if the router and firewall need to be two separate devices. I
see a lot of good comments on the Sonicwall firewalls, however I don't
believe they act as routers. My local Staples store sells the Cisco Small
Business RVS4000 Gigabit Security Router which looks like it would handle all
my needs. However, it's not getting great reviews on Newegg.

The Calyptix Access Enforcer is an excellent firewall router.  It can support multiple external IPs and supports up to 3 different LAN subnets..one can have DHCP turned on and not interfere with the LAN connection for SBS's DHCP server
It does VPN and port forwarding very well.   They also do Web Filtering, Content Management, Antivirus, Antispam, Anti-malware and integrate well with AD

Chris,

We are currently running SBS 2000. Plan to upgrade to 2008 this year. Will
the Calyptix integrate with SBS 2000?

Also wondering how easy this is to configure. I have only done basic
configuration with Linksys routers.

Are you using ISA with SBS 2000?   There could be issues there.
Setup is fairly easy, but Calyptix does not sell directly to end users.  The partner you purchase through would be responsbile for assisting you in the setup...but it's pretty easy.

Yes, I am using ISA with SBS 2000.

Perhaps I need a different solution until I convert to SBS 2008 later this
year. Any thoughts on a cheap, short-term solution?

VPN is always going to be an issue with ISA in the mix...not that it's not possible..just makes it more complicated
Have not worked on an SBS 2000 server in a long time  but any router should pretty much support pptp passthough
