When installing Windows on a Mac through the software Parallels, you may encounter an error with activating Windows. The error will report that "the product key was already used on another device." It looks like the following:
Hi, I am running a MacBook Air (2014) and bought a license for Windows 10 and installed it using Parallels 12. I tried it for a couple days and found it to be lagging a lot, especially for high demand processes. I want to instead run Windows 10 as a dual boot on my MacBook so I used Bootcamp to partition my hard drive and install a copy of windows 10 there. The problem is that I can't activate it as Microsoft is telling me that the activation key has already been activated (error 0xC004C008). Is there a way to deactivate the license on parallels and use that on the bootcamp/dualboot? I am using it on the same MacBook Air.
My assumption is that Windows on Arm in general does not work with any Windows product key obtained through public available means, as Windows on Arm is only delivered to OEMs for production and meant to be sold with the device they produce. The keys you may obtain through MS Store ore other valid channels are meant for Windows on Intel.
Because there are many software apps that only are available in Windows, I hope they will change that in one of the updates because there are a lot of people who are using the new MacBooks with the M1 ARM chip in them. I also hope the next update of Windows 11 for ARM will allow users to enter a product key that will be accepted.
Before I signed up to the programme, I had an older MacBook and had Windows 10 intel version running under Parallels. When I purchased a newer MacBook with the M1 chip, I transferred my Parallels license to the new computer but found my Windows 10 would not run on that computer so the Parallels support rep gave me a link to get Windows 10 for ARM from the insiders programme. The Windows 10 beta version they gave me had a product key to use which was different than my Intel version of Windows 10. It looks like one of the updates had a problem with product keys because that's when it kept on asking me to activate windows even though I had a product key that Parallels support gave me and it work working perfectly. It was a long time ago. I think it was an ISO file they sent me. That's how I entered the product key they gave me. Maybe that key had a limited amount of time to preview the software.

When I had my older MacBook I was running the Intel version of Windows 10 on a Parallels Desktop VM. My license key came from that install of Windows 10 which is many years old. When I purchased my current MacBook which is ARM based, I installed the ARM version of Windows 10 which I got from Microsoft Insiders onto the VM. That version never asked me to activate the install twice regardless of how many times the automatic updates for Windows 10 for ARM where installed. My problems only started when the automatic updates were for Windows 11 for ARM. Each of the Windows 11 updates worked for around 2 hours just like the previous Windows 10 for ARM did. While I was using each update, I got nagging reminders to activate Windows even though the software was activated. Some bug in one of the updates caused all new builds to keep nagging me to Activate windows, so I gave in and contacted Microsoft to purchase another license key. I tried to enter that key into the activate screen and it refused to accept that newly purchased product key so I got a refund. This is clearly some kink of bug if it doesn't accept any valid license key. I even called them and also sent feedback to Microsoft through the feedback process of Windows 11 but they won't get back to me which is very frustrating. They really need to fix that bug or do something that will stop those nagging reminders.
I live in Europe. Probably because of EU Regulations, Parallels Pro has installed Windows 10 Home (64-bit) N in my new VM on my new Mac, without asking me which version I want (!). Because Windows asked me to activate it, I bought a Windows Home License from a professional dealer for 129 EURO (!). When trying to activate Windows with that Product Key, it did not work! The error code indicates that this was a wrong product key because I have a Windows N version. The dealer told me that I need to "upgrade" my Windows 10 Home "N" version to a Windows 10 Home version WITHOUT "N" to make the product key work! But when I download the Windows install tool from -us/software-download/windows10 I always get the version with "N".
So how can I "upgrade" my Windows 10 Home "N" version to a Windows 10 Home version WITHOUT "N" so my 129-EURO product key will be accepted? (Please note that it is not enough to just add the media-pack, as that will not make Windows accept the non-"N" product key).
This handy linux trick was found on Twitter by brandonprry and is perfect for users who dual boot Windows and Linux on a computer. And no, in case you were wondering, the linux specific trick does not seem to work from a Mac running Windows in Boot Camp, but if you do know of a method to retrieve a Windows product key used in Boot Camp from Mac OS, share it with us in the comments below.
The methods mentioned in the article will help find it without digging through old emails or product boxes. However, if you are looking for a new Windows 10 key, you can _to_get_a_windows_10_key/, as this will allow you to install a genuine version of the system. I was looking for any code to run on cmd but people always talking about some .exe files to download. They say on their blogs that the only way to get product key is to download this kind of applications. I did not want to download third party applications to stay away scams. They can steal your product key through these programmes..

I had no idea you could get the product key right out of Windows, like most people I used to have a drawer full of product licenses, registration numbers, product keys, license keys, serial numbers. This sure would have been useful back in my days of being a heavy Windows 98, NT, 2000, and XP user! But if it works in Windows 10, Window 7, then I am not sure it would work in Windows XP, despite XP still being widely used.
