We are looking to develop a mobile application to do some simple inventory
functions with a barcode scanner hand held device. However wireless
connectivity would not be allowed so data transfer to Dynamics would only be
possible when the handheld was cradled (or plugged into ethernet cable).

I was curious if anyone could suggest some options for integration?
In my research I’ve found the following:
AIF filesSystemAdapter updates that could be sent from a Cradled ActiveSync
SQL sync services that move data from mobile db to server DB and then some
sort of service that synchronizes with AX compoenents?

I’m still very new to Dynamics so any help you could offer would be greatly
appreciated.

Hi,
we've done multiple mobile projects at our customers, most ot them with
inventory processes like item arrival, transfer, counting, picking and
packing. I'd suggest you to ignore the limitation about WLAN connectivity but
build a solution that uses the AIF Webservices. Because there is no
difference between a wireless connection or a cradled ethernet cable
connection.

One of our customer needed an offline item arrival software for locations
with no or hardly any internet connection. I build the solution in this way:

1) Define you business objects eg. Picking Orders, Items
2) Use, modify or create AIF web services that transfer these business objects
3) Use a SQL compact edition db on you mobile client to store informations
locally
4) Build you Presentation Logic on the client
5) Create a sync funcation on your mobile device that communicates with AX
over AIF WS, assuming that it is a cradled ethernet LAN connection. (But may
be also WLAN, Bluetooth, etc, there is no limitation in you software itself)

feel free to contact me at my business email address m...@standardit.at if
you'd like more information, or architecture guidence
