We want to install AX 4.0, my customer is asking about install the Database
server in 64 bits, and the AOS in 32 bits,
Is this a good practice?, do you know about a problem with this kind of
communication?

And also I like to know is there a "formula" about the kind of server to buy
(processor, RAM, HD, brand, etc)

thanx

Hi Gustavo,

Sql server:

x64 seq server is the recommended way of implementing ax..i cant stress on
how helpful it is.

there should be no problems communicating with a x86 ax AOS...

i did many implementations with the above configurations and they are all
running very well.

something i would like to warn you about though.. is go with sql and windows
enterprise edition.
the sql server x64 std edition might cause paging issues...

regarding memory... well that really depends on the number of users,
requirements (number transactions, integrations, bla bla)..

i think if you are implementing a 100 user system u should ateast allocate
16gb to your sql server..... i would say at a minimum you should get 8 gb
(even if you just have 20 users).

Processor: 2x 2.4 quad core

there are many other factors involved such as raid configuration... let me
know if you need help with it..

Aos:
for 100 users, i would recommend getting 5 aos servers..
each with 4gb ram... and 2 giga quad core processor

feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

regards,

Thanx Mohammed

the paging issues is only with the std version?

so, you recommend me to have only entreprise versions in the database
server?

thanx

Hmm..i think for 100 users runnig 5 aos is a "little" bit oversized.

Please take a look at:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/D/5/8/D58A6AC5-C5DB-4C52-AF6A-BA1253D42318/AX40SP1SuggestedHardware_100Users.pdf

if you are using a 64bit edition of the sql server you must also consider
that there is a limitation with the reporting services when you are using
these with Dynamics AX.
Dynamics AX only supports the 32Bit Version of the SQL Server Reporting
Services.

Hi,

if you have an PartnerSource or CustomerSource account you can find many
more documents there.

Take a look at the deployment - whitepaper section...
