Windows XP/invalid image

What to do when I see messages like this:
The application C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32|8w5ngrwnvf.dll is not a valid Windows
image. Please check it against your installation diskette.

I bought this computer used with Windows XP already installedIs it
compatable with Windows 2000 bescause in the proprerties it has Windows 98
and Windows 2000 some of them I have changed to wWindows 2000 for
compatability. I have very little computer knowledge, but Im'm willing to
try to hold my own so Im'm asking questions that may not be worded just right
in order to fish out what I really need to know.
