Win 7 Directory Structure

I don't know exactly how to word my question. So I will describe what is
bugging me.
(OS drive) C:\Program Data\Application Data\

Each time I step down in Application data the directory contains another
/Application Data. I step down in it and there is another. I stopped counting
at about ten. The path finally get to long to be valid. This can't be right.
Some of them has the shortcut arrow on them. I tried deleting one with the
arrow and they all disappeared. Had to recover from the Recycle Bin and left
it alone. My system seems to run allright and I ran sfc /scannow and it said
there was no system file errors. This may not be system files. The only thing
I am aware of that I done is I too ownership of the main directory
(c:\application data) when I was trying to install Adobe reader. The install
was trying to write to that directory and couldn't. I ran the install as an
administrator. But in the end I had to take ownership.
