I also am getting this same message when trying to install from the Microsoft
installation CD. And I opened the securely sealed package. So how can this
be remedied?

I have encountered the same problem. Trying to install Office Home/Students
2007 on new Dell laptop with Vista Home Premium. Early in installation get
error message "Setup cannot find Excel.en-us/ExcelLR.cab file" and it shows a
file dialog box to choose the right directory to "Browse to valid
installation source." When I choose the CD/DVD drive where the installation
disc is located I get the same error message. How can I complete the
installation?

With my OEM version I also got the message "Setup cannot find
Excel.en-us\ExcelLR.cab ..." soon after the installation started.
The file was on the disk where it should be but the installation prog did
not see it so I suspected the disk was corrupt.
After searching around with no success for a solution, I downloaded the
trial version of MS Office from
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX102893441033.aspx and installed this
without the serial number. (25 free goes!)
Then I installed from my CD to the same location and after entering the box
serial number the installation worked fine. At the end of the installation I
let the installation check for updates and all is well.
I hope this helps.

Um...I had this problem and it worked out really strangely for me....
I restarted my computer. Went in the CD folders looking to make sure that
the ExcelLR.cab file was there and in the correct location. It was.
I kept redirecting the "setup cannot find..." to browse in the CD....this
happened a few times until Setup finally shut-up and installed my software.
Strange, I know.
Best of luck...

Hello,
I was trying to install MS Office 2007 on a Vista Operating System.
I received the same message "Setup cannot find Excel.en-us\ExcelLR.cab..."
I canceled out of the Microsoft Office Setup.
#1 - Then I right-clicked on the very small Windows Defender icon (lower
right portion of the screen) and clicked on exit.
A Windows Defender dialog box will pop up - Asking:
Are you sure you want to exit Windows Defender?
Click Yes (Windows Defender will be active again on as soon as you restart
your computer)
#2 - Right-Click on the very small Norton Internet Security icon (located
lower right portion of the screen)
Click on Disable Antivirus Auto-Protect
A Norton Internet Security dialog box will pop up
Select - Until System Restart
Click OK
Now try installing MS Office 2007.
Special Note - When I installed my MS Office 2007, there were times I
thought the computer froze up. I gave it about 5 minutes or so, then finished
the installation successfully.
(Remember to restart you computer as soon as you have successfully installed
the MS Office 2007 software.)
