SOT: Sony LCD

Just bought a cheapish Sony Wega LCD TV for the bedroom from Sainsburys.
It's only a small screen 15" or 17" I think, and it doesn't have a built in
digital tuner(hence the SOT).
Anyway, don't think that is all that important...
In the setup menu is a 'Power Saving' option which can be turned on/off. If
it is turned on then every time I change channel, I little yellow 'Power
Save' icon comes up on the screen for a few seconds (along with the channel
Id and 'Nicam Stereo' labels). Other than that, it doesn't seem to make any
difference... anyone know what this option actually does, I'm just curious.
I even read the manual, but that just says somthing like 'This option turn
on the power saving mode'...
