How to transfer data to server without post or get method?

Hi !
My name is Sukhee Cheong.

Now I'm developing a web server supporting GIS map.
Then I've got a problem.

My page(.htm) have a ActiveX control which show a map image.
I want to make the image refreshed when user clicks some button.
But I don't want to this page does not refreshed.( only image refreshing)

My scenario is following.
1. User clicks some button.
2. Some Data was sent to Server.
Or, some files in Server is updated.
3. Server knows the user want to show another image.
4. Server makes new image.
5. Server send information to client than new image was created.
Or, Server update some server file to inform the user to know the new
image was created.
6. Client refreshes the image data.

My English is some poor.
But I know clever you can understand this letter.

Can you help me?
