JSript v. VBScript and scripting tools

I want to control my desktop and applications using WSH and scripts rather
than the old batch files.
I'm NOT interested in designing HTML pages for the web.
To achieve this, which scripting language is to be prefered?

Also, I'm for an easy life and don't want to do all the work in a text
editor. Is there a tool or wizard around which will complete the code for me
after I've selected an activity (start application, copy file(s), input,
focus window etc.) by clicking on a button, rather like 'MacroMagic' (by
Iolo Technologies).
I don't need the tool to do everything for me. I'm quite prepared to come
back to the resulting script with an editor and 'get my hands dirty'.

Once I've got my answers to this, which will be the best newsgroup to join
for info sharing?
