This is a new one for me. I am starting on a new project, and downloaded the
mdb. Turns out it was for Access2003, I have 2002, so they saved to the prior
version and I downloaded it. Then I get this message:

This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site.
Microsoft Access will not open the file due to potential security problems.
To open the file, copy it to your machine or an accessible network location.

There is only an OK button.

Now, the message seems straightforward enough, and I appreciate being
protected from an untrusted site ... but I downloaded the darn MDB to a
specific folder ON my pc. The file IS located on my PC, so it is in my
network in a trusted zone. I asked the customer if the tables are "real"
tables or "links" to external files but was told that there are NO linked
tables.

Why can't I open this file? Suggestions?? (help!!)

Hi Tony ... thanks. I checked the url you posted and none of those situations
seem to apply, or I'm missing something. I checked each of the causes
mentioned and although my system DID have one of the items checked, upon
unchecking the checkbox I still cannot open the file.

The file is MCA1.mdb (which does not have a specific workgroup) and exists
on my C: drive. There is one other developer other than myself, and that
developer also has a copy on his C: drive, and he can open the file. Like
most people I am using a 3rd party Virus/firewall/anti-spam (etc) package.

Hello Brad,

This issue could occur since the database is downloaded from the Interent.
There is a system policy that blocks the download files to run on the local
machine. You may want to refer to the following article for some deails

Description of how the Attachment Manager works in Windows XP Service Pack 2
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=883260

To resolve the issue, you may want to localte the .mdb file in Windows
Explorer, right-click the file and chose Properties. In the "General" tab,
click "Unblock".

Please let me know if this resolves the problem. If you have any update,
please feel free to let's know. Thank you.

Thank you. I had not known about the "unblock" option and that solved the
problem. Is this a relatively new feature? How long has this been an option
on the General Tab?.

Hello Brad,

Glad to see you solved the issue. Yes, this feature related to Attachment
Manager is introduced in WinXP SP2 and it's also included in Win2003 SP1.

If you have further questions or concerns on this, feel free to let's know.
Thank you.

I have the same error message - trying to open a file on a network share (laptop in the same office). When I right click on the file and look at Properties, General tab, there is no "unblock" button though I have checked the PC is running XP Pro SP2. Under Security the user has full rights to the file. The database needs to be shared by all users in this department. Can anyone help?

Thanks
