I am attempting to add a new column in a years-old database in Access 2007.
When I attempt to open up the table in design view, I get a message that says
"You can't modify the design of '(database)' at a replica" and I can only
open it as a read-only. The file is a .mdb and Access is not giving me the
option to save it as .mdbx . Does anyone know how to fix this so I can add a
new field to this database?

Replicated databases can only have their design changed at the design
master.

If the design master is not available, is there any way to get around it?

You can recover the design master, but you only want to do that if
the DM has really been lost, or if you are not actually using
replication to synchronize replicas any longer.

I have also got the same problem and failed to resolve it. Is there any help?

Is the Master corrupted or is it lost? If it's lost, you're really in bad shape. The only thing you can do is designate a new master, losing all your sync data in the process.

If the Master is corrupted, there is a SLIGHT chance it might be repaired.

Have you considered upgrading to an Office 365 package and writing an Access app? Cloud databases are MUCH easier, if you can afford it.
