We have an Access 2003 replicated database that has been working for
years. We use both Direct and Indirect Replication. The Direct
replication has stopped working. The pop menu from the tools menu/
Replication/Synchronize now menu does not display anymore. The
Indirect Replication still works fine, but the direct method has
stopped working. It’s disconcerting knowing that we now only have one
method to replicate.

To the sum this up, we need to get the direct synchronization to work
again. Do you have any ideas?

How about direct replication in code? Does that still work?

You got me David. Here was my understanding. I thought using the pop-
up menu and selecting the “Synchronize Now” selection, that this was
Direct Replication; and then if I use a selection event from a form,
i.e. button, that kicks off replication in the code, that this was
“Indirect Replication”. Am I wrong in my analogy?
Is there a way via code to use an event and kick off first Synchronize
and followed by Replication? I know there are subtle differences
between the two.

Well, you do actually get the option to synchronize with a
synchronizer not just do a direct replication.

The point I was making is if this is a UI issue or if there's
something wrong with your replica preventing the synch.

Also, have you patched A2007? The original release had a bug that
prevented direct replication in code via DAO. I don't know that this
spilled over into the UI or not, but be sure you have the latest
version of A2007.

I do not think it’s in the UI. I opened the Replicated database
separately, and I tried to use the available tools from the menu.
<Click> Tools <Click> Replication <Click> Synchronize now… the first
message is “There isn’t enough memory to perform this operation.
Close unneeded programs and try this operation again”. Then nothing
happens after that. When I go through this same process with a
database with no issues, I get the same message, but it follows with
the popup menu for Synchronize Database message.

I’m sure I did not download the patch, especially since we uninstalled
it.

Sounds like something is definitely messed up in your Access
installation.

You don't need to download the patch any longer -- it was rolled
into SP1. If you've used Microsoft Update to keep your Office
installations patched, it should be installed. If it's up-to-date,
it should be at least SP2 (go to the orb and choose Access Options,
then Resources -- it's the last thing listed there).
