Hello,

I'd be very grateful if anyone can help me on this.

The following error dialogue appears whenever I try to use a wizard. I've
recently had a lot of problems with my equipment and have had to re-
install NT4 several times! Suddenly, there's this problem with Access. I
see there's quite a few articles in the knowledge base but they don't
seem to quite the same, and several solutions are offered. Specifically,
there's no mention of the 'Error 429' notification. On the principle of
'one train can hide another', I'd like to find out a bit more before I
start digging into the registry, or anything like that.

Hi, you should make sure the ActiveX is the same as the one you used for
creating the controls on your form. If not, you must either recreate all the
controls or reinstall the version of the ActiveX that you used.

I too have this problem, but I am even more at a loss. I am running
Access97 on my home computer. Here is the basics of my problem:

Access97 says "ActiveX can't create object". I get this whenever I try to
use a wizard. The program ran fine before. Now, whenever I try to run a
wizard, I get that message. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the
program (even upgrading to SR-2). I also tried reinstalling IE4. I did use
to have Access on a different hard drive but I uninstalled office before
removing the hard drive. The wizards, in the other programs, work fine.
Something else that is odd, my System Information command does not work in
any of the applications. I am running Win95. My setup seems to be different
that yours apparently. Have you been able to get any further with this
problem?
I did find an old article from someone and am waiting to see if this
individual will respond to my email. Here is his post:

I'm zeroing in on this.

I'm now getting error 70: Permission denied. The event log on the server
system has the event "Access denied attempting to launch a DCOM Server
using DefaultLaunchPermssion. The server is:
{57692FF7-E867-11D0-8C35-0000F877FDEB}".

According the Remote Automation Connection Manager, my user is allowed
to access this. I've given myself the "Log on as a service" right. What
else can be stopping this from working?

Ricky,

In GENERAL - a 429 is a activex dll load initialization failed... first
thing would be to check the Tools-References tab (usually you will see
"MISSING: Some DLL" on the item that failed). Second (probable) possibility
is a missing license key file (usually a .lic) which probably came on a VB
disk, and you ended up using in Access. Without VB (or whatever product,
including the Office Developers Edition), you can't create an instance of
the DLL.

Good luck hunting down the culprit.

I know the feeling.

I created an access database, that seemed to work on different machines
over the months. Recently, I copied it to a Windows 98 machine and low and
behold, error 429, Can't creat object. If anyone has any ideas, please let
me know on da...@netspace.net.au.

Note: I am using :
DIM O AS OBJECT
SET O = CREATEOBJECT("MsComDlg.CommonDialog")

It is in the machine's registry. So I feel that some other OCX file is
needed.

Regards
Leigh

Well maybe not a solution but a workaround:
- Create a dummyform (call it "frmDummy") and drop the activex-commondialog
to this, naming it, i.e. dlgFileOpen
- then write some wrapper-code
- NB: I had to use this wrapper, because Excel did not always run
Userform_initialize and Userform_activate when using frmDummy without
creating a new instance. Maybe Access's behavior might be different

sub ShowFileOpenDlg
dim aForm as new frmDummy
with aForm!dlgFileOpen
.SomeParametersWhichHaveToBeSet
.ShowFileOpen
end with
set aform=Nothing
end sub

I first tried to do sth. like (having a reference to MsComDlg):

sub bla()
dim aDialog as New MsComDlg.CommonDialog
aDialog.ShowFileOpen
end sub

This last one resulted in an error like yours as well.
Regards
Mirko
