I have a database that is on my company's X drive. Everyone in this building
can use this database just fine. However, we have one user that is around 20
miles away that has recently tried to open this database on her computer.
When she opens it, she is told that the database is read-only. No one else is
in the database when she opens it. It will not let her edit the database at
all. Also, I have noticed that the .LDB file is not created when she opens
the database on her end. What could be causing this?

Is this user coming in over a VPN?

Btw, it sounds like you did not split your database into front-end (on
each workstation) and back-end (on the server). This is a REALLY BAD
IDEA that will likely come back to bite you. This is a FAQ - you
should have no problem finding discussions about this topic and how to
remedy it.

No, she doesn't use a VPN and the database isn't split. She receives an error
message: Could not lock file.
