I was wondering if anyone has had a experience with
hooking up a bar code scanner to your pc and scanning
barcodes, with the data being scanned going to Access?
I have a handheld scanner and a laptop and instead of
enter employees last 4 digits of their Social Security
Number, that if I could scan their ID cards(They have bar
codes on them).
Any help on the subject would be appreciated.

Any keyboard-wedge type scanner simply makes the scanned data look
like it was entered from the keyboard. With these devices nothing
special is required to scan the data into Access. It's really quite
simple. Most of these barcode scanners also allow you to configure
them to send a carriage return or horizontal tab character following a
successful scan. That is particularly useful if you want a field's
AfterUpdate event, for example, to look up a record and populate a
form for the scanned data. HTH

See the Bar Code page at my website.
