It would be nice if Microsoft continued to make the newsgroups on this
server available as archives (i.e. read only). Otherwise there will be an
awful lot of information lost not to mention an enormous number of broken
links to messages.

Someone somewhere in this discussion said that the archives of
DejaNews were lost, but they were not -- Google Groups took them
over and has the most complete Usenet archive of all time. In fact,
Google sought out archives of newsgroups that were lacking in Deja's
archive and loaded them into their database when they set things up.

Too bad they've now screwed up the search interface so that you
can't trust the results!
