How to do this: IF Field A = "10/86" then Field B gets "October 1986"

I am updating a very old database and trying to "fix" a dating
problem. Namely "Date Purchased" is a text field, not a date field.
Changing the field type to Date is likely to trash the data. At least
Access seems to think so.

So I need a macro to read a "date" in Field A, if it matches a set
value, "paste" said value in Field B. For instance 10/86 was a
frequent entry as was 20020131. I do not really want to hand change
all of those.

For what it is worth, I'm running a very old copy of Access 97,
because it is what I had, it worked, and to upgrade to the current
version requires an intermediate step (because apparently, MS Office
Access 2012 can't even open the files.)
