Desperatly need help importing Excel to Access

I am trying to import an Excel spreadsheet into MS Access. When I get
to the step where I would normally be able to change the column
headers and data types MS Access will not let me. The option to change
data types is dimmed out and when I select columns other than the
first one the name in the description box remanes that of the 1st
column.

Had anyone seen this before? I think I can work around it but it is a
pain and it happens every time I need to import. One of my co-workers
sugested it could be a LAN permissions issue, does that make any
since? I do not hvae admin rights to my workstation
