I'm a novice, but created this database a while ago. When I went to copy
the database back to the newly installed program, it would not open. I
don't really know much, but noticed that the .ldb file is missing. The
MSAccess book that I have doesn't mention .ldb anywhere and I don't know
where else to look. I'm hoping that I can recreate or somehow get the .mdb
file to open.

Thanks
Celine

the .ldb file is only there if a user is in the database. once you shutdown
the database the .ldb file disappears. Which (if any) messages do you get?

What version of Access are you using? Access 2.0 and earlier used to be
permanent .MDB and .LDB files, but Access 95 and older have only a permanent
.MDB file - the .LDB file
exists only while that database is open, then is deleted.

In the About Microsoft Access section it says it is version 7.00 for Windows
95. I have windows 98. I sent this additional information to Chris in
response to his question yesterday, but it didn't go through.

It was on the MS-DOS directory that I noticed this file didn't have an .ldb
and another similar file did. So it must be another problem.

The messages say, first - "Invalid database object. Microsoft Access
couldn't create storage space for a Visual Basic Module."

Then the next message says, "If our database is on a network drive check our
connection, and then try again,"

Then the next message says, "Device I/0 error"

The database is on my C drive. I really appreciate your help.

Thanks
Celine

Thanks Chris and lbrinkman for your time. I believe I found a solution. I
made a new blank data base and started importing Forms, Queries, Reports,
etc. from the database that wouldn't open. The database object that was
invalid was apparently in the Forms section, because it wouldn't import.

One weird thing: Even though I selected my invalid database called
CelAddr7, the name imported 'things/objects" were called CelAddr (another
similar database). But the data from CelAddr7 was what was actually
imported?!!!

If I can expect any problems from this inexperienced way of manipulating the
databases please let me know.

The error message you are getting is typically found when you try to open an
Access97 or Access2000 database in Access95.
