Hi,

Has anyone had any success importing, or even better attaching, to
Quickbook datafiles. The Quickbook help file says that you cannot import
transaction data, but I have a client that would really like to.

Any suggestions?

I haven't used Quickbooks yet, but most programs let you export data. Can you export the transactions into a file, and then import that file into Access? Access handles a fair amount of other types of files, like Excel, DBase, Text (comma separated, fixed width), etc.

I have written a program to do this. First, I have to print a transaction
report to file. Then, I can import into my database. However, since the
amount column contains "commas", Access interprets it as text. Therefore, I
first open the file in MS Word, strip out the commas with a macro (but can
be done by hand with "replace"), then import into Access.

I do this each month.

In fact, I also then can import files back into QuickBooks to run checks.
Have to add headings, etc. to accomplish this - not very simple!

All of this involves an MLM client, so it gets pretty hairy and the purpose
is to calculate bonuses to each level.

I have the same problem... I have an app that I would like to export
accounting data
out to a Quickbooks .iif file to import into QB. Does anyone know how to do
this?

Thanks - Grant

I filled out a survey for quickbooks a while back and there is some
indication that the next release may be able to import/export some.
Right now there is nothing I've seen.

Not particularly easy, but I have an MLM client where I had to do this.

In fact, I print to text a monthly report, import it into Access where some
calculations are done, the results are then exported from Access to a text
file.

I then run an MS Word 8.0 macro to add all the headings, etc. and save the
file as an iif file in text format which I then import into QuickBooks for
printing out checks.

Took a LOT of work to get to work, but now is routine.

I would need more detail on what you are needing. You also have to know the
account names, etc.
