I have installed MS Access from Office 97 Professional with Service Release
1. I did a FULL INSTALL (selected all options when running setup). However,
when I run Access and try to import an Excel spreadsheet (File > Get
External Data > Import), Excel is NOT listed in the "Files of Type" dropdown
list (Access, dBase, Fox Pro, and ODBC are the only items).

What am I doing wrong here? I have even installed the Data Access Pack from
the Office Value Pack. Every other PC in our office has Excel listed in the
"Files of Type" dropdown list, and we all installed from the same CD.

Thanks in advance!

You need to re-register the ISAM drivers.

File Name Import/Export ISAM For
--------------------------------------
Msexcl35.dll Microsoft Excel
Mstext35.dll Text
Msltus35.dll Lotus 1-2-3
Mspdox35.dll Paradox
Msxbse35.dll Microsoft FoxPro
Msxbse35.dll dBase

Click on Start, Run, and type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REGSVR32
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSTEXT35.DLL <OK>.

This should successfully re-register the text driver, use the list above for
others.

Good luck!
Michelle
