i want to import repeating fields from an excel spreadsheet (from an xml feed
from a volunteer online registration form) and need to normalise these. how
do i do that???

can i automate the first level of normalisation or do i have to re-structure
the imported flat table?

(step by step instruction would be very welcome!)

hope someone can help!

You haven't given enough specifics to give you step by stem instructions.

However, on my website (www.rogersaccesslibrary.com) there is a small sample
database called "NormalizeDenormalize.mdb"
(http://www.rogersaccesslibrary.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=312) which
shows how to write repeated columns into a normalized table. I'd link the
Excel spreadsheet and write the normalized data to a new table.

Another sample called "ImportSpreadsheet.mdb"
(http://www.rogersaccesslibrary.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=339) might
also provide some useful techniques.

If this is a one-off operation then the Excel to Access Converter
Utility at :

http://www.rogersaccesslibrary.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=183&SID=cffd26c188ce42852zza9dza3z4c9fd6

should do it for you automatically.
