Not any? They're line-wrapped, of course, but I had no trouble

For reference, go to www.microsoft.com, search for 'switchboard access' (no
speech marks obviously), second hit is Q262847.

Though I've just done a search directly for Q262847 and that fails to find
anything.

Weird.

Where did you hear that? And why don't they have big signs up and klaxons
going off with massive red warnings saying "You're wasting your time here
bud."

Still can't get to the 2000top.asp either. Suspect I may be able to blame
my browser as it's ancient.

How about this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[ln];kbnumb

If you use the Knowledgebase and your search fails with no matches, you get
a link to the above article.

So far, I haven't encountered any unavailable pages personally, though
I've heard of a few such. But I don't think it's as bad as that. I'm
not at all happy about the change in article numbers from "Qnnnnnn"
(for English-language pages) to just "nnnnnn", though.

Folks the problems you are having with the url's is due to line wrapping.
You can use the little utility to fix them. It sits in your quickstart bar
and all you need to is copy the entire url (wrapped and all) then click on
the icon and it will automagically fix the url and open the page:

You need a mercy-shot to the back of the head, if you don't understand
word-wrap by now.

You also need a mercy-shot, if you think it's somehow difficult to combine a
wrapped-line.
1) Copy/paste the first part to explorer
2) Switch Windows. Requires a keystroke
3) Copy/paste the rest to explorer

For goodness sake, Marvin, there's no need for a whole 'nother url.

That would be Arvin. There was no mention of difficulty at all. Nor was
there any mention of another url (like the tinyurl program which is nice,
but too much work for more than one url).

The urlrun process is easy and takes far less time. You simply select all
the text in the url, now matter how many lines it is. Right-click and choose
copy. Click on the urlrun button on the Quick Launch toolbar. Thats it!

The browser opens to the url. Everything that you've done in line 1 of your
directions (and more) is done and you are looking at the page. It's not a
question of difficulty. I can add a hundred lines of numbers in my head from
a spreadsheet, but why do it when I can click on a column and then the Sigma
button? Computers exist to do the stupid and/or repetitive things we do, not
to do the things which require intellect.

Sorry Chris Mills,
If we all could only compare to you're word-wrapping-url genius.
We all make bone-head mistakes sometimes. Thanks, for the tip,
I'm well aware of cut and paste, and how a long URL gets wrapped.
I just replied to the post too quick, and without a better look. (As I
stated...bone-head mistake) Maybe the mercy-shot candidate should
be reconsidered. ---Arvin, thanks for the link, I liked
it. Being URL challenged, I found it useful.

--Chris, you don't impress anyone with that kind of attitude.

<sigh> So what ideas did you actually have on the thread subject?

(at least I post under my own name)

(Why all the spaces and circumflexes at the bottom of your post? Were you
replying to a null issue with a null reply to the last circumflexes?)

(If I accidentally left that in a program, it would not compile, I guess)

:-)
