Running Access 2007 and Access 97 in tandem

I have an *.mde which requires Access '97 to be viewed, but I just
upgraded to Access 2007. Now, everytime I launch 2007, it detects
Access '97 and wipes it out of the windows registry. What can be done
to get these two versions to play nice on the same machine? Thanks in

Go into your Program Files and located the A97 msaccess.exe. Send it
to the desktop to make a shortcut. Make a copy. In the copy add
the driver letter, path and file name of your Access 97 database file.
You'll need to put double quotes around that if there are spaces in
the path or file name..

I think all it's doing is registering A2007 as the default
application for MDB/MDE files. It's only post-97 versions of Access
where the registry gets rewritten more extensively.
What you need to do is change your shortcut that opens your A97 MDE
to include the path to the A97. Alternatively, you can create a SEND
TO icon so you can right click the MDE and choose which version to
open with.
You might also try right clicking and seeing if the OPEN WITH list
makes sense. Mine on this WinXP PC is very good, as when I right
click on an MDB and choose OPEN WITH, I get a list of all 4 versions
of Access installed on this PC. The fun part is distinguishing them,
as none of them as the actual version number, but all four have
slightly different icons, and mostly different names for the program
(A97 is "Microsoft Access", A2000 is "Microsoft Access for Windows",
A2003 and A2007 are both "Microsoft Office Access", but A2003 sorts
at the top of the list and A2007 at the bottom -- the icon is the
only thing that distinquishes them).

Tony -- are you running WinXP? If so, can you check if your OPEN
WITH list is similar to mine, with all installed versions of Access
listed there?

Yes, I am running Win XP. And yes,my Open Listt does with all the
installed versions of Access on it. The icons are appropriate to
that version of Access However the text is pretty much the same. Also
found is ACCVER and other misc items such as Notepad.

I wonder where that data is stored.
What order is yours in? Mine is in the order the versions were
installed (A2003, A97, A2000, A2007).

I think I saw something that coulld've been that when trolling the
registyr recnelty.

Now that could very well be. Mine are in a randomish order which is
how I've sintalled Access on my systems these last 5 or more years.
