any special tweaking i need to do to my SQL server to speed things up.
my home network is very simple - 6 port hub, one 1.8 gb server with gig of
RAM, on e XP pro workstation, one 2k, and one Me workstation. also DSL
modem on hub.
the XP machine performs any sort of data access very slowly when linked to
either SQL or another MDB on the network. the other boxes run faster.
any clues?
thanks,
mcnews

I would check if it does not try to find the server on every step using
Internet DNS. Get off the internet, or better remove Internet dns and see if it
changes.

Also change the network library (client network utility) and see if makes a
difference.

can't use interent without DNS server IP addresses.

so enable something else (on the server as well) and see if it makes
difference.

I have same problems. I uncheck the 'Enable Forwader' of the Server DNS, it
work fine.

This sounds like a network issue, not a SQL issue.

Can you browse a share on the server easiliy or is that also slow.
Invariably this is caused by a DNS issue. Try removing these a Vladim says
to see what happens.
