Hello,

I am trying to set up a VPN to my office using Win98SE, I had this
working fine on my old PC (Win98), but on my new one I install the VPN
adapter, but it will not bind the TCP/IP protocol to the adapter. Any
Ideas?

Hi Michael,

Thanks for choosing Microsoft Direct-Access Support for Value Added
Providers (VAP). My name is Joe and I will be assisting you. Here is some
detailed information on installing VPN and checking the installed
components. You may need to remove and reinstall VPN and tcpip and I'm
including the KB article for that as well.

Ok, that worked for installing the VPN stuff, but how can I get this to try
to connect longer, it times out in a short time, then tells me the modem is
busy if I try to connect again. I need to restart the PC and reconnect to my
ISP to try again, this is very counter productive and a pain.

Hi Michael,

I have a few questions for you. This information may help us narrow down
the cause of your disconnects.

Are you able to keep your regular modem connection to your ISP (without
using VPN)?

Are you connecting to the VPN server by server name or IP address?

Exactly what type of modem do you have?

Here are a couple of articles that may give you some insight to this
problem.

If necessary you can send us a copy of a log file that tracks whats
happening when you disconnect.

Ok, I was able to get the VPN stuff working now, by uninstalling both the
VPN and the ICS, then reinstalling the VPN first, then the ICS. I still
have the problem when I dial out to the VPN, if I get disconnected, and try
to reconnect or don't get the connection on the first try, I get an error
602, modem in use by another connection, the only way around this is to
disconnect, shutdown and restart the PC, then reconnect to the ISP and try
the VPN connection again. any ideas on this one?

Hi Michael,

Please answer the following questions so I can get a clear mental picture
of your configuration.

Are you trying to use VPN on the ICS Host computer or from clients going
through the ICS Host?

Exactly what type of modem are you using?

How many Win9x "clients" are connected to the ICS Host machine?

Who is your ISP?

I look forward to getting this information so we can work with you to
answer your questions about ICS.

Thanks again for choosing Microsoft products and services to meet your
