You can fire up some logging for your IMC. For complete data on logging as
well what objects are used for what, see the following link or your Exchange
Books Online:

Then, go to "Maintenance and Troubleshooting" and then to "Diagnostics
Logging" and then IMS. SMTP protocol log should show you what is going on
exactly and how communications with other SMTP mail servers is going.
