many thanks for your help.
No, it is not followed by any other Event. I should also mention that
that specific Exchange box is directly located in the internet, *before*
the firewall.
The exact Event ID I am getting is 13048 from Source "MSExchange NNTP",
Description "An error response was received to a newnews command fom
server Newsfeed ..... The response code was 502. The pull feed
connection has been terminated.".
To make thing strange, the feed was able to pull some groups
(specifically Exchange) during the last 2 hours - other not (e. g.
win2000). From the news pulled, I have the impression (not verified yet)
that not all articles have been pulled.
Maybe there is a problem with the privatenews.microsoft.com. I have
noticed today that I have diffent views if I take a look via the web or
NNTP interface. I also received a subscription notification for a
message that wasn't visible through either interface....
At best, I am now puzzled.
Any solution would be deeply appreciated....
Rainer
Is this Event ID followed with "poprt limit has been reached"? If so yo
may
want to check your proxy settings. See the following KB articles;

we have set up an exchange (5.5 US, SP3) feed to access these
newsgroups. It
worked well until yesterday afternoon. Without any change from our site,
it
simply stopped to work. We are getting an nntp error 502 each time the
feed
tries to connect. I have checked the security settings, and they are
exactly
the same like the one I am currently using in Outlook Express - where I
can see the groups. However, I tried to post this message in Outlook
Express, but it didn't show up. Then I noticed that there is a
difference between Outlook Express and the web interface. I wonder if
this one will reach the group.
Feeds from msnews.microsoft.com work well.
Any thoughts?

many thanks for your very helpful comments! This does indeed shed some
light on it.
Interestingly, my feed's situation is different from what you are
experiencing. I am able to receive the exchange group (from time to time
though ;-( ) but the others are in trouble since the 16th. I am still
receiving the 502 errors on a number of groups.
I would still apprecite someone form MS to confirm problems with the
service - so at least we know what's going on... (aren't we under NDA if
it is an Exchange 2000 beta issue?)

I have been trying to set up a few pull feeds for some time. I have all but
one of them working - the Exchange group is still causing grief.
I did a *LOT* of troubleshooting (using Telnet to issue NNTP commands
directly to the privatenews servers), and I discovered that one message in
particular (posted back on Dec 22, 1999) is causing a timeout. Actually,
it's the attachment associated with the message that's causing a timeout.
An MS tech has indicated that he has alerted the appropriate party, and that
a quick response to the problem is expected ... but I haven't heard anything
back yet.
As for your 502 problem, I too was getting them (although, they seem to be
gone now). A few days ago (when I first noticed the errors in the Event
Log), I fired up trusty Telnet again, and tried to issue the server "pull"
command - and Telnet displayed the 502 error.
What you may not (or may) know, is that the "pull" command issued by the
Exchange News Connector is different from the "pull" commands issued by news
reading clients (like Outlook Express, Forte Agent, etc.). Exchange issues
a "newnews <groups> <GMT timestamp>"; clients issue different commands.
I think that, for whatever reason, the privatenews service temporarily
disallowed the server-to-server pull, but continued to allow the typical
client pull. I do know (from messages in the "announcements" group) that MS
is rebuilding one of their news boxes, so this may have something to do with
the short-lived outage.
Are you still getting the 502s, or have they now gone away?

To be honest with you I am not sure how you login or the circumstances

whether or not your account might have been deactivated or not, I would

to get a new account and try again.
again i am not sure if this is even available to you just an option to
help
you with your issue.
Thanks, hope this helps!
