You may get it to build but you won't be able to verify the behavior
of the components which make up the SSCLI. I have successfully built
the SSCLI using the C++ compiler that ships with VS2008 (VC++ 9.0),
however some of the programs do not behave correctly. For instance the
C# compiler will generate random errors when parsing the source code.

I would stick with the recommended VC++ 8.0 compiler.

With that said you can safely run VS2005 and VS2008 SxS and not
encounter any issues. Make sure that you install the products in order
though, i.e. VS2005 then VS2008.

any problem yet.
Thanks granvillebarnett to host such a brillant place.

What kind of problems have you encountered? could you share it.

Hi,

Most of the problems I had using the VS2008 toolset was that some of
the components, in particular the C# compiler would give random errors
when parsing source code files.

These errors just made me stick with the toolset that I know it works
for.

So, what changes did you make then to use the VS2008 toolset? And does
everything behave correctly? How extensively have you tested it?

Personally I don't think there is much benefit whatsoever using VC++
9.0 over 8.0 unless you don't want to install VS2005 also.

You got me, I have used Vs2008 for a long while, and I am not willing
to install Vs2005. :)

For now, I just run some samples in commonline, and write some sample
csharp codes in vs2008. Fortunately, I did not met your questions by
far.
Once I encounter kinds of problem, I might consider your suggestion.

Now, I usually write a code and use env to set the environment and
build, then use clix to run it.

Nice to meet you, Granville
