Can anyone help me out with this....

Just installed Windows 11 on new PC. I successfully installed a version of Money 2004 (UK, version 12.0), however, when I try to load my money.mny file, it reports  that password is not recognised. The entered password is correct. I have even saved a version on a Windows 10 machine and removed password and get same response (see screen shot).

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to resolve this issue?

Are people successfully running Money on Windows 11 machines?

Thanks

Yes, I copied my money file with password from Windows 10 PC to Windows 11 PC and the password was unchanged and accepted

I am using the Sunset Plus version

Have you changed the keyboard layout by any chance? or character set?

No, I have not changed keyboard or character set. I even installed a virtual machine running Windows 10 on the new Windows 11 PC and installed Money 2004 and used the same .mny file and it all worked fine.

It is reassuring that you are successfully running Money on Windows 11. I am stumped as to why I am having this particular problem.

The screen shot shows a password - what happens if there is no password?

You could create a new file on the Windows 10 PC, enter a couple of test transactions, save and transfer and see what happens

This would help to ascertain if the problem is specific to your file or is with the Money installation

Just thought about the mnyobj.dll - there are updates to this

I saved the .mny file on the old Windows 10 machine with no password and when I tried to load it on the Windows 11 installation, it still came back with the same error when I loaded the file.

I also tried  installing the Sunset version and had the same problem.

What is the issue with the mnyobj.dll and what do I need to do?

Look for a file named *.m12. That would be a copy of your Money 2004 file saved during attempted upgrades. You can copy that or get a copy from your old computer. If you can install and use Money 2004, that would be best. See if you can uninstall Money Sunset, and install Money 2004. Then see if it will create a new file with no password, or better yet, see if you can open a copy of Sample.mny.

Money Sunset will not be able to use your UK Money file. The *.mny file that got produced  during the attempted upgrade is not useful.

I don't know whether or not Money 2004 should have worked directly. I was thinking yes. Not sure. If you are going to try a newer version of Money, your only choice is Money 2005 UK – QFE2
https://microsoftmoneyoffline.wordpress.com/2010/05/09/intro/#downloads lists a source for that. Uninstall Sunset before trying the Money 2004 or 2005 installation.

As a last ditch attempt, I have just reinstalled Windows 11 and now Money 2004 is working fine! No idea what went wrong with the installation?

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Such a shame Microsoft ditched Money..... even after 20 years it still meets by needs almost perfectly.
