Hello,

My money file is getting large 150MB, and what's worse, it is getting slow.

I am thinking of backing up the file and delete transactions before 2021 and starting the account with the final balance of 2020.

For that I need to delete thousands of transactions ans doing so manually is almos impossible.

I thought of exporting to excel and later load in a new account, all transactions from 2021 until now, but i have several transfers between account that complicate things.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

"Archiving" does not usually help speed, but it can get rid of older non-investment transactions. I suggest you do not do it. More info available.

If you run slowly, I suggest you delete all bills, and re-do ones you want to keep. There are suggestions on how to bring some back.

Especially for slowness in starting, you should use the Windows Firewall to keep Money from trying to access servers that no longer exist. More info available on that too.

If you are using a mechanical hard drive, SSDs run faster.

Hello

These are great tips, it helped a little bit on startup since I had very few bills.

The main problem is adding a transaction, especially the first time after app launch.

Also, reports are kind of slow

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

I would say that you just got the Cadillac of suggestions from one of the Deans of the Microsoft Money user group.

If you are running Sunset, make a copy of your file (with a different name) and try deleting the bills to see if things speed up in a worthwhile amount. If running Money 2005, that is not available.

File->Repair->RemoveAllBillsData

This Remove All Bills Data feature would be for people who have experienced their Money file to run excessively slow.

To get some information within the program,
File->Repair->RemoveAllBillsData
Read the information. Then click cancel.

Before proceeding, make an extra copy or backup of your file in case you want to undo something.

The problem will be that if you remove all bills, you will probably want to add at least some of your bills back.  This can be done manually with the aid of the reports that you print out before removing the bills.

A technique that could help simplify re-entering your bills afterward would be to go your register and selecting a representative instance of your past bill and selecting "Make Recurring" (Ctrl+E).  This would be especially helpful if the bill is complex, such as involving a split.

Two other items you can try to speed up the loading process:
1. Go to Settings / Tools / Home page display settings
Remove all the items. If that improves the performance, you can start adding things back one at a time to see if one is the culprit.

2. There may be other items in the file that are corrupted.
Do a set of three file repairs: Quick, Standard type 2 (open the newly repaired file), do another Quick repair.

Hello!

Thank you all for the time and comments.

So this is what I did and still the Launch and the first after launch transaction recird times are bad.  Also reports times are bad.

1. Blocked via firewall internet traffic, in or out (I actually get a notification from eset, my antivirus)
2. Removed all bills data. (I previously had 5 bills only)
3. Ran both quick and standard fixes.  (Weird thing is that after running the standard repair, the file size jumped from 134Mb to 200Mb, onky to return to 134Mb after runing the quick repair.)
4. Removed all homepages elements.

I must say that I have 18 active accounts, some woth more transactions than others, but definitely in the thousands all of them.

Thank you again.

Also, I am using Money plus n=home and business version 17.  Should I change to sunset?

Did you remove the bills using File->Repair->RemoveAllBillsData ?  If not, run that command even though you have no bills  showing.
