Version 4.3.0 of msmquote is now available for download from GitHub.

*** Important Note ***
A Quick File Repair must be run on your Money file before msmquote 4.3.0 is run for the first time.

What's new:

Changes and enhancements

  • Handle stale quote data: sets the Portfolio Change column to 0 when the received quote data is more than 5 days old.
  • Add capability to override automatic quote adjustment for either a currency or a combination of a currency and quote type.
Bug fixes
  • Fix incorrect symbol truncation.
  • Fix issue preventing manual price updates and QIF import or manual entry of buy/sell transactions.

msmquote is an open-source Java command-line application for updating current and historical security quotes and current currency exchange rates in Microsoft Money files, using a variety of online and offline quote sources.

Quote data can be updated for any security or currency where a quote is available from these supported sources:

  • The Yahoo Finance quote data API;
  • A Google Sheets spreadsheet with quote data provided by the GOOGLEFINANCE security information function.

Historical data for a single security can be updated where a quote is available from the following sources:

  • The Yahoo Finance historical quote data API;
  • A CSV file generated by the Yahoo Finance historical quote data download facility;
  • A Google Sheets spreadsheet with quote data provided by the GOOGLEFINANCE security information function.

To get started with msmquote please see the project home page. Further documentation can be found in the wiki.

I tested this today and it works like a charm.

However, i have one issue. For few of my investments, when i tried updating the symbol, msm doesnt save the complete symbol. For eg: when i tried saving HOMESFY-SM.NS...it only saves HOMESFY-SM.N (without the last S). any idea why this happens?

Thanks

Maximum symbol length for Money 2005 and Money Plus is 12 characters.

Hi,

This is due to the symbol size limit imposed by Money. Can you confirm the base currency of your Money file and also the full symbol that you see on the Details page for this investment?

Thanks,

Jonathan.

This sounds right. Symbol lenght is more is 12+ characters:  JETAIRWAYS.NS,  PRECISION-SM.NS etc. Base currency is INR.

Thanks Cal and Jonathan!

Thanks. I'm currently testing a minor change to msmquote that would enable these to be updated.

Regards,

Jonathan.

Thanks again Jonathan. One more question: After my recent quote update (the second one...first one was yesterday), i realized the Annualized return at the bottom of the "Portfolio Manager" is now showing 0.0%. Till yesterday it was showing the right return %. Any idea why is that changed? I searched the grooup for an answer but i guess no one encountered this issue in the past.

Thanks

The annualised return value is calculated by Money - I've always assumed that 0% means that it can't be calculated rather than actual return being 0%. I also sometimes see this behaviour in the Investment Performance reports.

Regards,

Jonathan.

My understading is that when MSM cant calculate annualized retruns they show NA...0.0% is bit weird. will keep tweaking to see if i can able to resolve.

thanks
