Is there anywhere I can download? My copy is 1300 miles away and I may need to reformat

I would install Money Plus Sunset Deluxe. It will convert your Money 2006 file. There are some advantages including being able to back up to a USB drive with more than 2GB of free space. Also fixing of merger operation, and some more.
usmoneydlxsunset.exe is the name of the install file.

MD5 for the usmoneydlxsunset.exe install file:

SHA1 is 8d059c7d412a067770cb2aea900c9fb6bf8663ba usmoneydlxsunset.exe

Information on installing all versions of Money is at:

The links to the US Money Sunset installation file is dead, but you can download it from the wayback machine here:

The installation file should be USMoneyDlxSunset.exe with 35,677,984 Bytes with the hashes that Cal gives above and a  SHA256 hash of A1B320C255AFC400921B1771D06C65F039B47E71906095264B3BCFEE32BCD61F

If you are installing US Money Sunset you should also do the replacement of the mnyob99.dll file as described on this page:

If you need help with that replacement, have a look at this site:

which also has this link to the replacement dll:
Post back if you need more help.

Good point. You do need the patched  mnyob99.dll too.

if I didn't like Sunset, would I be able to switch back to 2006?

a) probably not if you install the 2008 over 2006,
b) if you can spot any meaningful difference between 2006 and 2008 Sunset, it is quite unlikely to be a deal-breaker. By MSM 2006, Microsoft had all but given up on improving the product. The 2008 version was more of the same.

Oh, IIRC, a file opened in Money version x won't subsequently open in Money version <x. So, I think the answer about rolling back is that you might be able to roll back the program version successfully--definitely uninstall newer version first--but a data file, IIRC, is an IIRC definite no.

Going back to Money 2006 is not simple.  If you still have the installation files for Money 2006, then you can uninstall Money Sunset and reinstall Money 2006.  But you must be sure to save a copy of your current Money.mny file that works with Money 2006.  When you install Money Sunset and open your current file, Money Sunset will convert it to the Money Sunset format and Money 2006 will no longer be able to read it.  So the process is:

  - Save a copy of your current Money.mny file at a different location on your hard disk.   Make sure that you also have offline backups of that file.
  - Verify that you have installation media for Money 2006.
  - Uninstall Money 2006.  (This is not strictly necessary, but it avoids having to keep careful track of which version you are using on which file.)
  - Install Money Sunset
  - Do the replacement of the mnyob99.dll file.
  - Open your current working Money.mny file with Money Sunset.
  - When exiting Money Sunset, change the name of the saved file to Sunset.mny or something similar so that you are reminded that it can only be opened by Money Sunset.

As Dick Watson points out, the Money Sunset interface is very similar to that of Money 2006 so you may be happy with it.  In that case, make sure that you review your backup process so that you are sure that your Sunset.mny file is being saved both on your hard drive and on some removable media.

If you really don't like Money Sunset, reverse the above process to go back.  Remember that any additions or changes you make to the Sunset.mny file will need to be repeated when you go back to the Money 2006 file.

Not that complicated.  When you install Money Sunset it will convert your Money 2006 data file, but it will also make a copy of your existing data file, giving it an .m15 (or 16, I don't remember) extension.  If you want to return to  money 2006 , you just just need to uninstall sunset and delete its .mny file.  Then reinstall Money 2006 and change the extension of the m15 file to mny.
