Hi all. The title is self-explanatory, but can anyone explain why my Portfolio Manager has never shown a dividend yield? I have shares, and many have had payments, including dividends, but this is one column that has never been populated?

All the columns in the Portfolio are, rather were, updated when the price data was updated from the Microsoft MSN site

This is no longer available - there are a few workarounds available but only a subset of the columns are updated in most cases

What are you using to update your share prices? msmquote updates a number of columns including dividend yield.

Without downloads from the Microsoft servers, many Portfolio columns continue to work because the values are computed from transaction history and quotes.  Quotes can be entered by hand, or you can use the PocketSense scripts to download quotes.  Other columns no longer work, because the data for those is downloaded rather than computed from history and price quotes. Here are columns that I find to be useful, and which work without the Microsoft servers.

Useful columns: %OfPortfolio, AverageCost, BondType, CallDate, Commissions, Currency, CurrencyCode, Gain, LastPrice, LastTransactionDate, MarketValue, Memo, Name, PriceAppreciation, Quantity, Symbol, TotalAnnualizedReturn, TotalReturn-1Week, TotalReturn-1Year, TotalReturn-3Month, TotalReturn-3Month, TotalReturn-3Year, TotalReturn-4Weeks, TotalReturn-AllDates, TotalReturn-YTD, TotalReturn-YTD

Some columns, such as %Change and TotalChange will show blank. Others, such as DividendYield, will display stale data.

I recommend that you configure to not use the "%Gain" column. There are so many useful columns available in the Portfolio, but "%Gain" was always weird. I suggest you get rid of %gain and use the wonderful TR (Total Return) columns.

I use Gaier Software's MSMoneyQuotes. It does not update dividend yield as far as I can see.

I've been using Money for a very long time, and I don't recall the dividend yield column ever showing anything, even when Money was still an active product. I wonder if that has something to do with all my stock being Australian, listed on the ASX?

Thanks for that advice. I'll play around with the columns again to see what useful information I can get. In the meantime, I've implemented your suggestion to replace %Gain with TR all.

Here is the complete list of quote fields updated by MSMoneyQuotes:

Last, change, open, high, low, 52 week high, 52 week low, PE, market cap and volume

Dividend yield is available from the MSN API as the key 'yieldPercent' - might be worth pinging Dan at Gaier to ask if this could be added to  MSMoneyQuotes .

No but it is a good question.

I noticed this long ago but has not mentioned it
