Hi everyone,
After months and months are trying I finally worked out with the help of a smarter robot (Opus 5.5) what the problem has been all along.
Money 2005-2008 has an autoupdate.dll that tries to go out and make sure Money is up to date. Don’t need that anymore! Money locks itself while it does the check, but something about wine reads the lock differently than Windows. I’m grossly over-simplifying here, the details are pretty involved.
Essentially, we (me and the robot) figured out that autoupdate could be disabled by creating a file in the Money program folder called mars.ini and putting AutoUpdate=0 inside of it. This “disables” the problem.
So no changes to wine, no changes to any Money binary program files. The only change is adding a config file that Money is designed to read.
I’m working on the Linux version of msmoneysetup now, with the MacOS version coming shortly after that. I have more work to do with the Mac version because it’s currently on wine 10 and I want to get it to wine 11.
Stand by for more,
Nathan
