I am a long term devotee of MS Money. I have the original disc in blue from 2004.

I have never had this before, but now -

I click on the icon on the desktop
it pops up just as always
offers a tempting glimpse of the usual front page
and then
closes down again and disappears.
this takes about four seconds. Pops up with the current date and looks absolutely normal but dies immediately.

whether I use the desktop icon
or the taskbar icon
or load from the saved data file

New on my parallels desktop is a message 'ctrl+alt to free cursor'.

This Money programme runs inside parallels virtual desktop on a Mac, has done for years.

I've tried reinstalling it from the blue disc, and from a backup white copied disc and by copying the blue disc to the desktop and loading from there. Every attempt to reinstall brings up 'autorun.inf missing or corrupt'.

Newbie here, but devoted and have masses of data on the current data file, so would appreciate following someones footsteps please.

See Download Microsoft Money Installation Files and install the appropriate regional version of Money.

Thanks very much.

Tried that twice - no luck. MSM 5 UK does exactly what MSM 2004 did, except really fast now. Was taking up to four seconds, now too quick to time. Flashes up and fs off.

Changing the mouse settings no impact either.

have now -
uninstalled and reinstalled W10 (just in case the main file is corrupted).
uninstalled MSM 2004 (disc) and MSM 5 (downloaded - thanks for the advice) twice each.
copied the disc to the hard drive in case.
opened MSM 2004 off those files.
opened the long time working MSM 2004 on my spare PC to check - works fine there (but thats on eBay to go tomorrow).

Four hours in and not having much fun.

First, move Sample.mny from your installation folder to your Documents folder. Make sure that your Mny file is there too.
Double-click on Sample.mny to open it. Does it open and stay open?
If so, go to Tools / Settings / Home Page Display Settings. Click on each of the modules and remove them.
Close Sample.mny.
Now try to double-click and open your file. Does is stay open now? If so, one of the modules had invalid information and that caused the program to close. You can try adding modules back one at a time to see which one was the culprit, or just leave it blank.

Thank you, Bob.

sample.mny does open, but does not stay open. Flashes up the usual front page, plays the first four notes of the splash page music and then disappears.

I assume that tools/settings/home page display settings is found inside MS Money? If so, is there any way of getting to it without opening MS Money - which I can't do yet.

Is this significant? I don't think so, btw.

You will recall that a standard install of the money .exe file always added MSN Money to the desktop, which linked out to the former live webpage. I am aware that MS ceased support years since, but today, a test click on that icon does produce a MS webpage with current stuff thereon. Some of the install therefore works.

The thought about the home page modules was based on specific date in your file that might have caused them to prevent displaying. Sample.mny does not have that problem. So, the fact that Sample also will not display indicates that the problem might be with the display adaptor being used in your version of Windows. I've never used Parallels on a Mac, so I don't know how you can change the driver, but if you can try using a standard VGA adaptor in the settings, try that. Failing that, you may want to get a cheap second-hand PC just to use for Money.

Its been a long week. I have lost count of how many times I have watched the percentage countdown on various pieces of software, the number of chats that I have enjoyed with CS, and the expenditure which I have been obliged to lay out to get things that worked before to work now.

Long story short - I suspect that it was an unactivated version of Windows 10 causing my panic. After nearly thirty years of daily use of MS money, and relying on it for all the usual financial aspects of life, and it becoming my most used piece of software, I laid out #115 to get legit with W10.

For no good reason, I just thought this morning that I would give it one last try - and all of last weeks problems and pain evaporated. MS Money works again.

Now all I have to do is to throw away JIOsoft, find the keyboard settings to get back my pound sign, and put " where it should be instead of hiding under @, and I'm back in business.

Thanks for your offers of advice, and your time in considering my problem and replying. This is a good utility and I will be monitoring it in future.
